Orissa registered third victory in the history of Ranji Trophy when they rounced Assam by 10 wickets on the last day of their three-day East Zone match at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati today. This was Orissa’s second win in 17 Ranji Trophy matches against Assam.
Aditya Mohanty bagged four wickets to help Orissa bundle out Assam for 98 after the home team opted to bat first. In reply, Orissa rode on a half-century by Harish Vijh and useful knocks by Vinod Gupta and B Bishanjee to compile a respectable total of 173.
Trailing by 75 runs in the first innings, Assam were bowled out for 109 in the second essay, leaving a target of 35 runs for Orissa to win the match. The visitors, led by Arun Patel, overhauled the target without losing any wicket. P Kar made his first-class debut for Orissa in this match.
